University-based scientific research: a key contribution to the fight against COVID-19
In the current context of the pandemic, UPC has made substantial efforts in terms of scientific research to create solutions that will benefit all Peruvians’ health.
COVID-19 has posed a challenge to all scientific communities around the world. Currently, thousands of specialists from across the planet are working towards finding better tests, more efficient drugs, and the long-awaited vaccine. In Peru, Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) has been one of the leading institutions participating in this effort and its research projects are yielding results.
During these months, the UPC has been working and cooperating with research faculty from different academic fields, government agencies, private companies, several foreign specialists, and other leading research universities. These efforts are materializing into many research projects, whose aim is to contribute to the fight against the current health crisis in Peru.
In addition to these projects, there are many others that are being developed, while others are in the search for funding. The ability to conduct scientific research works that are valuable to society is the UPC’s trademark. According to the 2020 SCImago Institutions Rankings, which measure the scientific influence of academic journals, UPC is the second leading Peruvian university in research.
BENEFITS FOR EVERYONE
Throughout the pandemic, another example of UPC’s efforts in the fight against COVID-19 has been the donation of face shields produced in its digital manufacturing laboratory (FabLab). These face shields were donated to different hospitals and institutions.
